Our Mission

Grovemade Empire uses basketball to elevate the physical and mental health of adolescents. We seek to reform global youth crime prevention initiative that builds on the power of sports as a tool for peace. The initiative aims to promote sports and related activities to prevent crime and to effectively build resilience of at-risk youth.

Our Methodology

Through partnerships with Governments, sports organizations and civil society, we will conduct youth-oriented basketball matches to promote civic values and disseminate the benefits of sport in keeping youth from becoming involved in crime and violence. We aim to organize fun- filled and frequent tournaments, therapeutic programs, professional clubs and cross country matches not only for the youth who have enrolled in schools, but for every kid out there who is fond of basketball and could be the next Michael Jordan.

Grovemade Empire recognizes that depression, anxiety, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and teen suicide are increasing worldwide, which is why elevating the mental health of adolescents in a productive, uplifting way is our utmost priority. We have consulted with a bevy of experts in the fields of sports psychology, developmental psychology, childhood education, and therapy and life coaching to understand mindfulness and social and emotional learning. We have combined these key mental health skills with the most popular youth sport in the United States, basketball, to ensure that all adolescents are engaged in a fun and safe environment to express their emotions, channelize their energies and learn the power of presence!

Why should we collaborate?

To make the picture in your minds clearer we wish to bring forth certain facts in respect of crime rates and the link between sports and mental health.

This statistic represents the prevalence rate of violent crime in the United States from 2005 to 2019, according to the age of the victim. In 2019, around 1.61 percent of persons aged 12-17 years experienced one or more violent victimizations.

The current research indicates that organized sports are sites in which players establish a set of values and beliefs that are way contrary to the competitive spirit. When they are used to propagate negative gender norms, the outcomes are very serious. Therefore, organized sports provide an opportunity for young and adult teens to learn healthy coping strategies and a strong set of moral values.

Joe Ehrmann, a former professional football player in the NFL and a Tedx Speaker views sports as an opportunity to redefine what it means to be a man and establish that masculinity is about trust, dignity, and integrity, rather than competition and aggression. He explains that as a culture, we must reframe sports and redefine coaching so that sports teams can teach positive values and help boys become emotionally secure and developed men, which would then reduce the level of violence in the athletic community (Tedx Talks, 2013).
